Paula Cangialosi 1950 - 2019 It was with heavy hearts and great sadness that we learned of Paula's passing on November 26, 2019. Paula was an extraordinary humanitarian who achieved so much for the children of A Chance In Life. She was a passionate advocate of our mission, and no task was too big or too small for her if it meant giving a child a safe home and an education. Paula generously gave her time, energy and support to A Chance In Life for decades to help thousands of children. We are so grateful to have called her a friend. To honor all that Paula made possible for our children, and to demonstrate our love for her, we have established the Paula Cangialosi Memorial Scholarship. Gifts given in her memory will be dedicated to this fund, and the scholarship will be given annually to empower young women around the world. In this way, we hope to honor and continue Paula's indelible legacy of leadership and compassion. |
This scholarship for 2020 was given to a group of young women in the outskirts of Kampala in Uganda to receive vocational training and start their own small business together.

On February 3, we were so happy to gather with ACIL staff, board members, and dear friends of Paula's for a virtual event to celebrate Paula's legacy and offer a birthday toast in her memory.
Founder and director of She Unit Uganda, Christine Namusaazi, sent in a heart felt thank-you video on behalf of the many girls who - thanks to Paula's Memorial Scholarship - were able to participate in last year's vocational training courses. The transcript from Christine's video can be found here, and her presentation begins at the 19:00 minute mark in the Celebrating Paula's Legacy video. |
I know [Paula] is not here with us, but I’d like to say thank you so much. I know you are in a better place, and I know you are watching us, watching the girls ... thank you so much for the opportunity you gave me, that you gave us. You saved families, you saved young girls from early marriages, you saved them becoming young mothers. Thank you so much, Madame Paula. May your soul rest in eternal peace.
