THE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR CHILD
Thank you for your interest in writing to your sponsored child! Receiving your letters is such an encouragement to our young people. Below, we have some tips and guidance to help begin your correspondence with your sponsored child.
Introduce yourself and your family (and any pets!) by name. Ask about their family, and greet all members in future letters.
Tell stories about your family, and talk about the hobbies or sports you enjoy together.
Describe your job or, if you’re a student, what you study.
You can also include photos or drawings of yourself and/or your family by scanning them and uploading the files to your Reach profile.
Our young people are working hard to build a future for themselves, something you have helped make possible! Let them know you care about them, celebrate achievements with them, and offer words of encouragement.
Sounds great! How do I send something?
The easiest way to get something to us is through our Reach Sponsorship platform. When you signed up to sponsor your child, you should have been prompted to create an account with your email and a password. Once you sign in, choose "Inbox" from the drop-down menu. If you click "New Message", you'll be able to type a message in for your child. Or, if you prefer to write it out by hand or include any drawings or pictures, you can upload scans of anything you would like us to send.
If you did not sign up for sponsorship through Reach, or you gave your information and asked us to sign you up on your behalf, you may not yet have access to your account. If this is the case, please let us know by emailing us at office@achanceinlife.org and we will send you your log in information.

PLEASE NOTE:
- Any messages to the kids in our programs are read by an A Chance In Life staff member before they are sent to them.
- We ask that you do not share personal contact information including phone numbers, email addresses or mailing addresses.
- Please do not share pictures that express material wealth or write letters focusing on materials items you may have. As the children in our programs come from backgrounds of poverty, highlighting that part of your life may make it difficult for them to relate to you.
- We request that you do not make promises to your sponsored child such as promising future support or visiting them in the future. This way, no one is disappointed if circumstances change later on.
- While we will do all we can to ensure your sponsored child gets their letter as soon as possible, it might be some time before you receive a reply. (Depending on the technology available at the Town where your child lives, it may have to be hand delivered by our program partners the next time they visit.)
